Jomoro MP stresses need for personal hygiene

The Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Hon. Paul Essien popularly known as ‘Jomoro David’ has urged people in the area to keep their environment clean and observe personal hygienic practices to free communicable diseases.

Addressing the people of Tikobo No.1 community after a clean-up exercise over the weekend, Hon. Essien advised the people to desist from littering the streets and gutters. The exercise which lasted for about six hours formed part of the activities to launch ‘Keep Jomoro Clean’ campaign to clean the whole Constituency and to save lives.

The clean-up exercise was extended to the Tikobo No.1 main market area and the lorry park. Tikobo No.1 market is noted as the central business area of the township where human activities lead to the production of refuse on a daily basis. Hon Paul Essien who is also the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs expressed dissatisfaction about the habit of people who deliberately throw refuse at public gatherings and places. He challenged the unit committees to educate the people about the importance to keep their surroundings clean at all times.

He appealed to religious leaders to use the pulpit to educate their congregation on the essence of proper environmental sanitation. The MP asked teachers to organise regular clean-up exercises in their schools to inculcate in their students the spirit of voluntarism in order to grow up and render active communal services in their communities. Speaking on the campaign ‘Keep Jomoro Clean’ The campaign is to educate residents on the need to keep their environments clean and also inculcate the habit of cleaning at all times to save lives.

He revealed that making the constituency clean was one of 2016 campaign pledges adding that, he would invest in this sanitation campaign. Mr Essien said he would link up with the Chiefs and Assembly Members in the Constituency to support the initiative to benefit all.

The MP therefore seized the opportunity to promise to give a prestigious award to a community which will keep its environment very tidy. He urged the people in the area to keep their surroundings clean and observe personal hygienic practices to free themselves against the outbreak of communicable diseases and advised them to desist from littering the streets and gutters.

Mr Essien thanked the youth who devoted their precious time to support the clean-up exercise. He also thanked the Chief of the community who also took part in the exercise and promised to take part in the subsequent exercises in the area. He further stated that his outfit will provide the needed logistics available for the exercise at the various communities.

On his part, the Constituency Chairman of the NPP in the area, Mr. Simon Amoah thanked the MP for the initiative and pledged to support the exercise.

Mr. Amoah pointed out that the party had initiated a number of educational activities, including regular clean-up exercises to create enough public awareness about the need to keep the environment clean at all times.

Stating that the clean-up exercise would also help invigorate the communal spirit of the people in the Constituency. He stressed the need to form a permanent task force to be responsible for the promotion of sanitation in the constituency.

The event brought so many people together including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ernest Kofie, youth leaders, students, Chiefs, religious leaders, the media among others. They all embraced the exercise.
